Install Package Files v2.00 is a handy tool for installing PKG files via the “bubble”/PSN method. It supports installation on all PS3 Custom Firmwares, including Rogero 4.30 CFW ver 2.00 and 4.50+ CEX. What’s New in Version 2.00:
- Faster Installation: Installing PKG files from /dev_hdd0 now doesn’t require copying and losing time and space. It takes less than a second.
- Progress Bar: Added a progress bar when copying non-split files from USB in the install PKG application.
- Stable Installation: Installing PKG files will not reboot the PS3, making the process smoother and more reliable.
Note on Singstar: If you ever want Singstar back, just press [Triangle] and [Delete] the new [IPF] and XMB will bring Singstar back. You can also get rid of the standalone install PKG and you’ll have a legitimate IPF now (using the ID of Singstar).
Installation Instructions
For CFW (Custom Firmware):
- Check Compatibility: Ensure that your PS3 is running a compatible version of Custom Firmware (CFW). Versions like Rogero 4.30CFW ver 2.00 or 4.50+ CEX are supported.
- Mount dev_blind: Before proceeding with the installation, you need to mount dev_blind to gain write access to /dev_flash.
- This is required to avoid installation errors (error code: 8001003A).
- Install the Package: After mounting dev_blind, proceed with installing the Install Package Files v2.00 update as you would with any other standard .PKG file using the package manager.
For HEN (Homebrew Enabler):
- Ensure HEN Support: Make sure your PS3 is running a version of Homebrew Enabler (HEN 4.78-4.91) that supports the installation of homebrew applications like Install Package Files v2.00.
- Mount dev_blind: Similar to the CFW method, you must mount dev_blind before installation to gain write access to /dev_flash and prevent errors.
- Install the Package: Use the usual package manager on HEN to install Install Package Files v2.00.
After Installation:
- Once installed, you can access and use the tool to install . PKG files directly from your PS3 XMB (XrossMediaBar).
- The installation of PKG files will be faster, with no reboot required during the process.
- You can also install split PKG files (e.g., filename.pkg.0 through filename.pkg.63) from various locations such as /dev_hdd0 or /dev_usb.
